“Born and raised in Newfoundland, Melanie is the extroverted and bubbly soul that will make you smile and feel at ease; but her artistry and creative talent is what will make you hire her again and again.”

Hey – I’m Melanie. But you can call me Mel. I’m a visual artist. And not just photography; I’ve been painting with acrylics and oils since the age of 9. I have been trained in all forms of art, but photography has become my career. I picked up my first DSLR camera at age 17 (after many years of film) and have been steadily working to improve ever since.

After completing my first degree in Newfoundland, I continued my education with a Master of Arts in Forensic Psychology in Toronto in 2016. My wandering spirit then took me to a new home in Galway, Ireland, teaching sport psychology at the local University. If you see images of mine where the greenery looks almost unbelievable, you now know why. I returned to Toronto in April, 2020 to be with my partner for the ‘end-of-the-world’ (a.k.a. Covid) and turned my passion into a full-time business. We’ve since re-located to Halifax, NS with our pug Coco and our kitty Newf, and now I get to spend my time capturing east coast weddings and dancing to Great Big Sea on the dance floor.

Starting my own photography business has always been in the back of my mind. And as much as we speak badly about Covid-19, it forced many to re-evaluate their life in beautiful ways. And turns out, I love this gig more than I ever dreamed I would. I absolutely love working with people, I absolutely love attending weddings, and now I get to do both in a way that hones my creativity and gives clients personalized art they will cherish forever…. I don’t have words to describe that type of perfection. My life has found it’s calling.

“I’ve always considered art more about the process than the product. I think of this even with photography. I want you to have a great experience from beginning to end. One that will create organic joy, allowing for authenticity in the final images.”
